On the occasion of Ranajit Guha’s 100th birth anniversary, some of us– present and former students of Presidency University/college–plan to pay a tribute to him in the form of a two-day conference. This is an initiative undertaken by an academic circle of Presidency University students, named Bhabuk Sabha, in collaboration with some former students of the Presidency College, who are also scholars affiliated to different institutions in the city.

The conference intends to focus on two aspects of Guha’s career and works. On the one hand, we wish to re-think the impactful legacy of the Subaltern Studies, while on the other, we also hope to discuss Guha’s relationship with the political-intellectual climate of different institutions in different phases of his life. It might be productive, we believe, to generate a conversation between these two aspects of his scholarly career.
